November came and on the twelfth Kay woke up at nine-thirty & rolled over in bed to find an envelope on the nightstand. She picked it up, found a paper inside and pulled it out, curious to see what was written. She quickly but carefully unfolded the paper before reading the hand written note from Sid.
'Kailey, Happy Anniversary. Can you believe it we`ve been together for eight years. Look in the closet, there`s a new dress that I picked out for you. I know that you don`t like dresses but I think you`ll like this one. Wear it tonight & meet me outside at five-thirty. Sorry I`m not there, coach called this morning and only wanted players to come for practice. You looked so peacefully, I didn`t want to wake you before I left. Love you so much. Sidney'
At four she took a showered, dried and straightened her hair. She opened her closet to find the new dress. Sidney was right, she did like it. It was dark blue, knee length, & spaghetti strap. Her silver four inch heels went well with it and they made her look taller. Light make-up was applied and the locket that Sid had given her for her fifteenth birthday was placed around her neck. Five twenty-five came and she put on her light jacket before making her way outside.
It was five thirty, but Sid wasn`t there. She heerd footsteps and a pair of hands covered her eyes. He spun her around and left a soft kiss on her lips. "Happy Anniversary Baby."
"Happy Anniversary," she said with a smile.
"You look great in that dress."
"Thanks I really like it. So where are we going?"
"You know that really nice restaurant in the arena; well I got them to stay open just for us tonight."
"Sid, I love you."
"I love you too," he said opening the car door for her.
After dinner they went down to the locker room to talk. "Do you wanna go out and skate for a while?" Sid asked.
"Sure." Kay said walking over to her stall and changed into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. They stepped out onto the ice and skated for about an hour. It was close to eight thirty when Kay went over to the bench to get a drink. That's when she saw a jersey on the bench. "Hey Sid, someone left their jersey."
"That`s weird, are you done skating?"
"Yea, I`ll take the jersey to the locker room." She picked up the jersey, turning it around to see the name Crosby stitched across the back.
"Honey is this your jersey?"
"No," he said skating over to her.
"Well it says Crosby, but your number's not six."
"I know it`s yours."
"But my last name's Schwartz."
"It won`t be soon," he said getting down on one knee and taking a box from where the water bottles normally were. "Kailey, I love you and I`ve loved you for eight years. Will you marry me?"
"Yes Sidney Patrick I will marry you," she said smiling widely. He put the ring on her finger and the whole team came out to the ice. "Were you guys here the whole time?"
"Yeah," Bugsy said. "We wanted to help Sid make tonight special for you."
"Thanks guys, you`re all the best friends ever."
Later that night after arriving home she called Amy. "Hello?"
"Hi."
"Hey what`s up?"
"Sid and I are engaged," she said excitedly.
"That`s great."
"I know I`m getting married."
"Congrats."
"Thanks."
"Well I`ll let you go be with Sid."
"Ok, bye."
"Bye."
The next day everyone on the team went to the Saddledome to play the flames & won 6-2.
