SiDi [A Sidney Crosby Story] Ten; The Job

Kay had just graduated from college which made her twenty-one & Sid twenty-five. A few days after graduation they were sitting on the couch talking. "Sid, I need a real paying job."
"So what do you wanna do?"
"Well I really wanna announce, hey are there any job openings at the arena?"
"There might be for next season. But why don`t you just keep singing at the games, everyone loves you."
"I don`t know I don`t wanna do that anymore, it`s not what I want to do with my the rest of my life. Now that I`m out of college I wanna travel with the team, so I can be with u more often."
"Well if you really wanna announce & I know that you do you`ll get to be with me everyday."
"Do you really think that I could do it?"
"You have the skill & that`s what you worked for in college. Call the arena & see if there`s an opening for next season."
"Mellon Arena this is Mary speaking how may I direct your call?"
"Hi, this is Kailey Schwartz. I have a question concerning the next season. As you know I`ve been singing the national anthem at games for the past seven years & I`m thinking of getting another job at the arena."
"Ok."
"I was wondering if there were any openings for an announcing job for this year."
"Actually there is, but before you could become an announcer you would have to try out so that the staff can make sure that you`re good at it & that you know hockey well enough to do the job."
"Ok, when will I be trying out?"
"Probably in August, when the management is gettin ready for the season."
She gave the women her phone number & hung up.
"So what did they say?"
"There`s an opening & I can try out in August," she said with a smile.
"I really hope you get the job, it would be great to have you always with the team."
In June on the eighteenth it was Kay`s birthday & she was turning twenty-two. That morning she got a call from Sid, which was weird, since they live in the same house. "Hello?"
"Hey baby, come out side, I have your present."
She walked outside to find Sid sitting inside a brand new Silver, Ford Mustang Convertible. "Who`s is that?"
"It`s your`s happy birthday baby, I know you`ve wanted one since you were fourteen."
"Thank you so much I love it."
The day after Sid`s twenty-sixth birthday Kay got a phone call. “Hello?”
“Hi, Kailey right? “
“Yes?”
“Well I know that this is short notice, but your try-out will be tomorrow, so come in at gate one & come to the radio booth, from there the people running the try-out will tell you what to do.”
“Ok, thank you, what time should I get there?”
“Your try-out out is at one pm.”
“Thank you bye.”
“Bye.”
“What was that about?” Sid asked.
“My try-out tomorrow.”
“Ok, cool.”
The next day she went to the arena & met up with Bob Errey, Phil Bourque, & Paul Steigerwald. “So what do I have to do?” she asked.
“First to make sure that you know hockey players we`re gonna say some hockey players last names & you say their first name, if you don`t know then just say pass,” Phil said sitting down to Kay`s right.
It basically went like this, “Lemieux….Mario…Brodeur…Marty…Straka…Marty…Kovalev…Alexei…
Ovechkin…Alexander…Ference…Andy & Brad……”
“Ok, you know your hockey players.”
“Now we`re gonna play a tape from a Pens game from about eight years ago, what you`re gonna do is just announce what’s happening.”
“Ok Phil.” They put the tape on, “Fata & Stevens to take the face-off. Fata pulls it back to Brooks Orpik the Penguins defenseman. Orpik brings it up to the red line & passes it up to Crosby, but it`s picked off by Devils defenseman Brain Rafalski. Rafalski takes it up into the Penguins end. Rafalski to Stevens, Stevens to Gionta. Shoot by Gionta, save by Caron, the pucks still out Caron doesn`t know where it is, rebound & another save by Penguins goaltender Sebastien Caron. Crosby wins the draw in his own zone against Zach Praise. Crosby to Recchi, Recchi to Palffy. Palffy shoot, stopped by Devils goaltender Marty Brodeur. It`s passed out to the point to Penguins defender Whitney. Whitney passes it over to his defensive partner Rob Scuderi, Scuderi back to Whitney, Whitney up to the right winger Ryan Malone. Malone, back to Whiney, Whitney to Scuderi, Scuderi up to the left winger John Leclair. Leclair to center Lassse Prijeta. Shoot by Prijeta stopped, Malone comes up for the rebound, Malone shoots, he scores Ryan Malone gives the Penguins a 4-1 lead over the New Jersey Devils.
They stopped the tape, “Well you definitely know what you`re doing that was very good,” Bob said.
“Better than I thought it was going to be,” Phil added.
“We didn`t think you would know the players names just by looking at the numbers considering the game was eight years ago,” Paul chimed in.
“Well that year was the year that I started working here & met all of them & I will always remember that it was the year that Sid & I started going out.
“You guys still together?”
“Yes Phil eight years.”
“Ok, well we`ll call you in about a week to tell you if ya got the job.”
“Ok, thanks Paul, bys guys.”
“Sid, I`m home.”
“Hey honey how’d ya do?”
“They said that I did really good.”
“I knew you would.”
“I saw you in a video from eight years ago”
“Really?”
“Yea, you were so cute, what happened?”
“Hey,” he said looking really offended.
“I`m joking, but you`re not cute anymore.” Sid started walking toward her. “You`re not cute ‘cause you`re fuckin’ sexy.”
Sid walked closer & wore an even grin. She ran into the bedroom & jumped onto the king sized bed. Sid jumped onto the bed after her & started tickling her. He tickled & she laughed for about ten minutes. Then his lips found hers & about fifteen minutes later her phone started ringing.
“Hello,” she said after pulling away.
“Hi Kailey, this is Phil Bourque calling to tell you that you got the job & when training camp starts next month you need to report with the team & will be with them almost everyday of the year.”
“Ok, thank you, bye.”
“Bye.”
“Who was that?” Sid asked.
“Oh that was Bourquey.”
“And what did he say?”
“I got the job,” said a smile forming on her face.
“That`s great, honey we`re gonna be together every single day.”
“I know, I love you.”
“I love you too.”
