SiDi [A Sidney Crosby Story] One; A Day to Remember

It was a sunny day in early November, the day that Kay was going to the Mellon Arena to tryout to sing the National Anthem at some Penguins games. After school she didn`t get the bus, but instead walked up to the Mellon. The e-mail she that she had gotten said to go in gate to & go to the locker room. She went in, sang for the people, & started on her way back towards City High to get the bus. She walked out of the Mellon not paying attention to where she was going & ran into someone.
"Oh, I`m sorry," She said not looking at the person.
"No I`m sorry."
She recognized the voice instantly, "Oh my God, you`re Sidney Crosby."
"Yes & you are?"
"I`m Kailey, Kailey Schwartz. I`m a huge Penguins` fan."
"Oh you are?"
"Yeah, & I`m a huge fan of your`s too.
"Oh really? Well if you think you`re that big of a fan, then let`s see, I`ll ask you some questions.
"Ok," She said with a smile.
"When is my birthday?"
"August seventh & you were born in 1987."
"Ok, why is my jersey number 87?"
"Because you were born in August, which is the eighth month, on the seventh, in 87."
"Ok, where am I from?"
"Cole Harbour Nova Scotia."
"What is my sister's name?"
"Taylor."
"What state did I go to school in for two years?"
"Minnesota."
"Wow, you do know a lot about me. Why are you here, there`s no game or anything tonight."
"Oh, I was trying out to sing the National Anthem."
"Oh so you sing?"
"Yeah sing & used to play hockey."
"Why don`t you play anymore?"
"My mom doesn`t like hockey & didn`t want to take me to games & practices."
"Oh that sucks."
"Tell me about it."
"Where do you go to school?"
"CAPA," She said with a cough.
"Isn't that a performing arts school?"
"Yea."
"So you must be really good."
"Well I don`t know."
"Let me her you sing & I`ll tell you how good you are."
"Ok, what do you want me to sing?"
"I don`t know, anything you want."
"Ok, um," She paused then started singing. "I can see the two of us together, I know I`m gonna be with you forever. Love couldn't be any better. Oh when you kiss me, I know you miss me. And when you`re with me, the world just goes away. The way you hold me, the way you show me that you adore me. Oh when you kiss me."
"That was beyond awesome," He said with a smile.
"Are you serious?"
"Of course, so how are you getting home?"
"I have to walk back down to City High & wait for my bus."
"Oh, why don`t I take you home?"
"Are you sure?"
"Yea."
They went to Sid’s car.
"There`s another thing that I know about you." She said once they got to the Range Rover.
"What`s that?"
"That you like to be called Sid."
"Yeah that`s right, but most people didn`t listen to that comment. They all just call me Sidney, including Mario."
Kay flinched when he said that name.
"Are you ok?" Sid asked.
"Yeah hearing Mario's name still reminds me of Craig. I don`t have a problem with Mario anymore, but Craig I will always have a problem with."
"Why's that?"
"He made some horrible trades."
"Oh, like who?"
"You want the whole list?"
"Sure."
"Ian Moran, Alexei Kovalev, Andy Ference, Johan Hedberg, Shawn Heins, Marty Straka, Brian Holzinger, Matt Bradley, Tom Kostopoulos, Eric Meloche, J.S. Aubin, there`s others but I don`t want to bore you."
"Wow you seem to really like hockey."
"Yea, but I ramble too much, so I`ll shut up now."
"No it`s fine, when was the first time you watched a game?"
"When I was three months old."
"Really?"
"Yea the city was more into hockey that year; it was when the Pens won the cup."
"So you were born in 91?"
"Yep, we`re four years apart."
"Cool."
"So when do you think they'll call about singing?"
"Well what I heard was if they though that you were good & want you to sing some time, then they'll call you tomorrow. But if they don`t want you to sing then they won`t call you at all."
"Oh, so let`s hope that they call tomorrow then."
"Yeah, so where exactly do you live."
"Um, off McKnight Rd."
"Ok, so you said your name’s Kailey?"
"Yeah, but you can just call me Kay."
"Ok, so are you going to any games this year?"
"Well other than the ones I might get to sing at, I can only go to two games this year cause of the change in the ticket price."
"That sucks."
At this time they were just getting to the exit to get to Kay's house.
"Turn here," Kay said pointing to the exit.
They pulled into the driveway & Sid stopped the car.
"Thanks for driving me home."
"You`re welcome, I had a good time talking to you."
"Me too."
She got my book bag out of the back seat & ran up into the house. When she got to her room she picked up the phone & called Amy.
"Hello," Amy said into the receiver.
"You`ll never guess who gave me a ride home."
"Who?"
"Sid." Kay said with a smile.
"You mean Sid as in Sidney Crosby?"
"Yep."
"How?"
"Well you know how I had the tryout today?"
"Yea."
"Well I was walking out from that & I ran into him, we started talking & he brought me home."
"That`s awesome, so how do you think you did at the tryout?"
"I don`t know, but Sid asked me to sing for him & his exact words were 'You are beyond awesome'."
"Really?"
"Yea."
"Well I`ll let you go."
"Ok, bye."
"Bye."
